APRS activity
I am active on APRS, the Automatic Packet Reporting System. The map below shows my home station and any other APRS activity in the area.
I use a number of different APRS IDs for the various systems that I operate.
- G4ILO is my VHF APRS station which runs as a 2m (144.800MHz) receive only internet gateway during the waking hours when I am at home. It uses a Kenwood TM-D710 transceiver with APRSIS32 software.
- G4ILO-1 is the ID used by my 30m AX25 HF gateway. This uses my Elecraft K3 transceiver and magnetic loop antenna with APRSIS32 and TrueTTY sound card TNC and runs when I do not want to use the K3 to operate on HF.
- G4ILO-2 is the ID used by my 30m PSK/GMSK gateway, using the APRS Messenger software from Cross Country Wirelessand runs simultaneously with the AX25 sound card TNC.
- G4ILO-7 is my Yaesu VX-8GR hand held transceiver. When this is on I am usually out for a walk, possibly to do a Wainwrights On The Air activation in the nearby Lake District.
- G4ILO-5 is used by APRSISCE running on my Windows Mobile smartphone. I sometimes turn this on when I am out on some non radio-related activity. Because the GPS drains the battery of the phone it is not very often used.
