Julian will be missed by many. His contribution to the greatest hobby of Ham Radio is what will make him memorable to me. But I am sure he was also a good friend and nice person to many others.
RIP Julian.

Hello, my English is not so perfect, please forgive this.

I build today a 2m stealthy antenna that G4ILO has design. It is working 100% very good, I am very happy with antenna as I live in a apartment and I no can have big antenna outside.

Now I am reading that G4ILO has passed away from us and I am feeling guilty and very sad for the loss of such talented man.

My sincere condolence to family of G4ILO, I am sad for your loss.

I am a very new ham and today I built a digital mode interface for my computer using plans from this site. I was going to drop a note to the authour to thank him and report success but instead found myself reading about his poor health and recent passing. I just wanted to say that his site is still helping people like me even now he is not here. My thoughts are with his family.

Hi Julian,
I recently acquired a KX3 and I absolutely love it. I was however looking for a decent piece of software to manage it and I found that with KComm.

It is a MAGNIFICENT piece of software, you are obviously a very talented designer, analyst and programmer. I knew this already for years since I installed Voaprop.

I'd thank you very much for these 2 fine and very complete applications.

I'm since quite a while reading your One foot in the Grave blog too, I don't want to ruin your day but believe me when I say from my heart that I find it all very very sad.
Life for certain hasn't been treating you fairly.

Take care my friend and say hello to Olga for me.

Kind Regards
Gust ON6KE

There's no need for you to answer this knowing that it's a burden for you.

Excellent review on the Miracle whip antenna, I own this antenna as well as the FT-817ND and I feel this antenna was mated especially for the FT-817, from indoors here in Sedona I have worked the big island of Hawaii on 10 meters ssb with an s-5 signal report, worked up to 600 miles on 40 meters ssb with the Miracle whip, 75 meters a counterpoise wire is needed to keep the swr down, love both the radio and the Miracle whip, best travel system ever made !

Re: Stealth Amateur Radio

You praise and condemn antennas you have never used. Bizarre.

It is also strange that you advocate for power levels that you admit are less efficient than higher power levels, yet rail against inefficient antennas.

Efficiency is vastly overrated. Source: QRP ARCI DXCC, WAS and WAC using a FT-817 with an
Antron A-99 and a 20 meter mobile whip dipole. All on phone.

Hi Julian,

I too am sorry to hear about your health which seems to have dramatically worsened recently (just read your blog).

I have long been a user of VOAPROP and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for using it.

I hope that you find a solution to your home healthcare issue.

Regards and best 73,

Dear Julian,

After much searching I found the best article about QFH antenna on your web site. I followed your design and built one for Field Day earlier this year and had amazing success with a one-of-the-kind (S9) voice contact with the ISS crew member. See me holding it proudly here

Thanks a lot for a great article.

Best 73!

Hi Julian. I'm a fellow ham from France. I've been reading your whole site for a few days. Lots of useful information ! I was particularly interested by your articles on stealth ham radio, since I leave in an apartement building. Anyway. Only yesterday evening did I discover about your cancer. I was shocked. I'm deeply sorry to hear that. You have done so much for the ham community, it will leave a mark. I wish you to be able to do contacts and other things you like doing for the longest possible time.
My thoughts are with you.

Hi Julian,

I am so very sad to hear of your declining health. My wife also has terminal brain tumour, so our thoughts and preys are with you and Olga.

Your technical & Radio blog I have referred to many times over the past years, especially on APRS. Your sharing of information and findings has been very much appreciated not only by me, but undoubtable by many other Amateurs around the world.

Keep fighting, our thoughts are with you always.
