Soundcard
The Soundcard settings let you specify how you wish to operate data modes. These settings tell KComm whether to load its internal CW (and PSK - Windows only) support software. If you use a K3, it also tells KComm whether to put the radio into DATA A (to work with sound card software) or FSK D/PSK D modes.
CW and Data without a sound card
If you use a K3 and wish to use the K3's internal DSP based RTTY and PSK encoder/decoder and the DSP based CW decoder, or if you don't wish to use data modes or CW decoding at all, then Use Soundcard Software should be cleared. All other options on this tab will then be cleared or disabled. The K3 will be switched to FSK D for RTTY and PSK D for PSK31 mode. Note: You will still need to manually enable the text decoder and CW T tuning indicator on the radio.
Using external sound card software
If you want to use external (to KComm) sound card software such as CW Skimmer or Fldigi, Use Soundcard Software should be ticked, and Use Built-in Soundcard Modems should be cleared. This will place the K3 into DATA A mode for data modes. KComm will not use the computer sound card, leaving it free for use by your other software. KComm will not know what data mode you are using, so you will need to manually select this in the logging panel.
Using internal sound card modems
If you wish to use KComm's internal CW decoder or if you wish to transmit and receive PSK31 and PSK63 using the soundcard (on Windows only) then both Use Soundcard Software and Use Soundcard Software should be ticked. You must then select the sound device to be used. You can individually select whether to use the CW decoder and the PSK31/63 modem, and specify the center frequency for each one.
